GUMIHO

구미호 = “Gu Mi Ho” Nine Tailed Fox

Once when tigers smoked, the gumiho was a dangerously cunning and magical creature that is immortal only if it can survive on hearts of human souls. It usually lured its victims by shapeshifting from a fox to a beautiful woman.

The story of the gumiho is a lesson of:

  • Nothing is what it seems. The gumiho transform from into a beautiful woman.

  • To be human, you must give up your monstrous ways and be discipline. The Gumiho wants to be human, so the gumiho refrains from eating humans hearts and livers.

  • Transformation. Nothing is set in stone. You have the ability to transform to a version you want to be.

The Gumiho is a nine tailed fox from Korean folklore. I’ve painted a contemporary Gumiho that is currently hanging in a jewelry studio in Montclair, NJ with 3 other local New Jersey artist. Together we held a Meet the Artist event on May 2nd, 2026. Many of the guests were in enchanted with all the fine jewelry and artworks, and they took the opportunity to chat with all the artists in-person. It was a great event with lots of conversations and laughter.
